And The Winner Is...

We have a winner of the Great Weight Loss Race for the month of July. "But we weren't doing it for the month of July," you say. For this particular contestant we will make an exception. And the winner is.....Alan Scherbel. Alan told us he lost 30 pounds in July. In an exclusive interview, Karl asked him, "What's your secret?" In his now famous scratchy voice, he answered, "car wreck." Folks, I think there must be an easier way to lose 30 pounds. Sarah told us that Alan told her he looks like a 6'1" Hannah. All joking aside, we're glad Alan is keeping his spirits up and able to laugh with us a little bit. Our prayers and thoughts are with him and we hope he comes home soon.

A little not about Alan's scratchy voice: I was at the hospital with him last night and the nurse asked him what his voice sounds like normally. His reply? "Very sexy." So there you go. :)

We were really sorry to hear (through the Big Piney grapevine, which does eventually reach us here at our cottage in Wisconsin) about Alan's car accident, particularly coming on the heels after your Grandma Rachel Scherbel's death. Please send our love to Scott and Elsa.

And, you're right, it's no way to lose weight.

My husband Larry was in the hospital for 8 months 5 years ago and lost 40 pounds (after they packed him in 100 pounds of fluid for most of it, so went from 180 to 280 to 140), can well relate. Tell Alan to hang in there, glad he's alive and getting good care.
